Reception New Families

Zoom Meeting - Tuesday 6th July

Our communications platform doesn't yet allow us to contact you so we haven't been able to send you the link or meeting details yet but we are holding a Zoom briefing and Q&A session on Tuesday 6th July between 5pm and 6pm. We will start with a short update about September and what, if anything, we can do before the end of the school year to help with your child's transition. Once the briefing is over you can choose to stay to ask questions and listen to what other families ask, or to leave the meeting.

We expect to be able to e-mail you as a group by Friday 18th but we will also be posting you a letter with details about your child's new class and we will include the meeting codes just in case!

Since you were last here, we have added the term dates, including INSET day, for next academic year to the documents list below.

New Families for September 2021

Welcome to St Nics!

Thank you for choosing our school, especially as you didn't have the opportunity to have a guided tour or meet any of us properly.

The National Offer Day (when you find out that you have a place here) is Friday 16th April, which is during our Easter break. As soon as we are back at school our office team will arrange to post your 'welcome pack' to you. In the meantime, some of the documents are here on this page.

Contingency Plans

Despite the easing of lockdown, as last year, we do not think we will be allowed to do our usual transition 'stay and play' sessions or the Teddy Bear's Picnic, though we will keep looking at the guidance from the Government. However, we are assuming that we will be able to do these things at the start of September, partly because we hope things will continue to improve but also because your children will all be in the same bubble anyway! We have therefore scheduled the stay and play sessions starting on our first day. We'll also schedule a Teddy Bears Picnic for the Autumn Term so you can meet each other.

We will also set up an e-mail distribution list so we can get information out to you electronically and keep you informed about arrangements if circumstances change.

What We Need From You

If you wish to take up your offer of a place at St Nics, could you return your acceptance form electronically, by post or by dropping it in to school. There will be a box inside the main entrance.

Could you also make sure we have a current e-mail address for you so we can set up that distribution list?

I hope to see you all soon but, in the meantime, take care and stay safe.

From last year

The following information was from previous years. Under the current circumstances we will need to review some of it but I have decided to leave it here for now so you have an idea of how things normally work. Much of it will still be of use.
Parents' Meeting

Below is information that is sent by post or given out at the new parents meetings once you have been offered a place at St Nics.

What to expect, when? A parents’ guide

The purpose of this booklet is to help you as a parent/carer find out more about how your child is learning and developing during their first five years, in relation to the EYFS. Children develop more rapidly during the first five years of their lives than at any other time. This booklet has been written to help you as a parent know what to expect during these vitally important years by focusing on the seven areas of learning and development which are covered in the EYFS.

My Child's First Day At School

Sometimes it is the parents who find the first day more difficult that their children. At St Nics we usually do a parents coffee & tea morning so you can come in to the main hall so you can give each other moral support!
Reception Baseline Assessment

From September 2020 we are required to carry out a baseline assessment for the Government. This will not replace our own baseline assessment which we will use to inform our own teaching.

This video, which is produced by the Department for Education (DfE) explains their baseline assessment.
