Late Arrivals

If your child is late for school for any reason they should be taken to the school office for registration. Arrangements will then be made for lunch. If possible, please inform the office staff if a late arrival is expected. Children are marked late if they arrive in school after 8.50am for Upper School or from 9am for Lower School. They are marked absent for the session if they arrive at school after 9.20am.

Regular Lateness

Learning activities start immediately the school day starts at 8.50am. Late arrivals both disrupt the rest of the children in the class and result in missed learning opportunities for the child who is late.

Where children are late more than three times in a half term a member of the Safeguarding & Welfare Team will speak to the child and a standard letter will be sent home. Where this happens two half terms in a row a member of the Safeguarding & Welfare Team will contact parents or carers to find out whether there is any support that is needed to ensure the child is in school on time every day.

Absences

If your child is absent due to illness we encourage you to inform us using the ‘Study Bugs’ website.

If you prefer, or if the absence is for reasons other than illness, you can phone the school office on 01273 418026 as soon after 8.00am as possible to say why they are away. Messages can be left on the school answerphone at any time of day or night. Please give the reason for their absence and an indication of how long they may be away from school.

We follow up any unexplained absence through our ‘First Day Absence Procedures’ which are detailed in the Attendance Policy.

Absences During Term Time (Including Holidays)

Parents are strongly discouraged from taking their children out of school during the school day. Where possible, appointments should be made for after school or during the holidays. Holiday absences are always recorded as ‘unauthorised’.

When you know that your child is going to be absent from school you should complete an absence request form and hand that in at the main office. Please do this even if you know that the absence will not be authorised.

Copies of the ‘Attendance Policy’ and ‘Absence Request Forms’ may be obtained from the school office or via 'Attendance Documents' link above.
