We set a Whole School ‘Home Learning’ task this week. It includes something for parents to do as well! Just in case you make a mistake and need to start again, here is a copy of what we sent home.

Phew! No Snow

Thanks goodness. Panic over. The snow stayed away and we are all in school as normal.
It's Snowing Again!
10/02/10 Filed in: Snow
It is 6.30 pm and I am about to leave school - but have just found that it has been snowing again!
I have had some difficulty updating the website from home during the last two weeks so I am posting these notes now - just in case!
We are into the routines by now so if the snow settles we will send a text letting you know whether we are open, partially open or closed. As usual we will do our best to open and we know that we have contingencies in place that worked last time.
If necessary, and provided it works, I will update this information in the morning. If I cannot update the information from home look back at previous news items to remind yourselves about the contingencies (non-uniform / change of shoes etc) if the snow settles and we are partially open.
Let’s hope there is no problem and we are all in tomorrow!

Lost Property
05/02/10 Filed in: News
What with the School Disco on Friday I forgot to take the photographs of lost property items ready to post here. I will get it done on Monday though so check back here then.
The lost property items that we have collected this term will be laid out in the hall on Monday and Friday and on a table in the playground on the rest of the days if the weather is fine.

Here We Go Again!
13/01/10
We are very aware of how much a closed school impacts working parents so we are going to try to open.
We are ‘partially open’ but will be short staffed!
Contingency plans as before:
1. No children to arrive before 8.45am then straight into the hall.
2. We'll start with assembly and registers in the hall then send groups of children back to class as people arrive.
3. Send children in with warm clothes and a change of shoes. We are suspending the uniform code so you will only need the top half of uniform (sweatshirt / fleece etc) you can wear warm trousers instead of uniform trousers.
4. Please do not take risks getting in - no driving etc. I am hoping we won't have a full school anyway because we will struggle to staff a full school. Be warned - the pavements around the school are treacherous and once people start arriving here in school our paths will get very slippery. We have no salt left!
5. Teachers: Your child may well be being taught by someone different and in a mixed class.
6. Playtimes: We will go out through the fire exits in Y3 & 4 and the main entrance on to the field because there is less danger of slipping.
7. The far gate will be kept locked. The steps are very dangerous. You will need to use the side gate or car park entrance.
8. Car Park is closed: There will be no cars allowed in the car park after 8.45 in order to allow you to walk through.
9. Please don’t contact the school if you cannot make it in. No one will receive an unauthorised absence or late mark if we are partially open. We know that there will be many who will not make it or will be held up. That is fine.

Wednesday - Friday Organisation
12/01/10
We are nearly back to normal!
For the rest of the week:
Uniform code suspended as explained before.
For the rest of the week:
Uniform code suspended as explained before.
Contingency Plans for Monday
Further Updates 11.30am Monday
All teaching staff made it in. Only two support staff were unable to get in. Some even brought younger children who were off school. 170 out of 250 children made it in.
For the rest of the week we are going to keep to the contingency plans below (suspend uniform code, no late marks etc).
We are still leaving it up to you to make your own judgement as to the safety of your journey to school but hope that everyone will give it a go so we see most of the children here tomorrow. From Tuesday onward please ring if you cannot make it in.
End of the Day:
Everyone is being let out of doors on the side of the school where the main entrance is. This should mean you can mainly walk on the grass which is much safer.
Y3 & 4 through their class fire exits.
Y5 through the front door.
Y6 through the Y3 Group Room Exit.
Still no cars in the car park.
We are going to clear the area by the gate at the far end of the playground before the end of Monday but take extreme care! Perhaps walk along the bank instead of using the steps?
Updated Information 7am Monday:
As the forecast snow didn’t come I am expecting us to be pretty much back to normal. I have gone with the ‘Partially Open’ option for several reasons:
1. I want you to make your own judgements as to the safety of your route in to school (we will not be giving unauthorised absences or late marks today).
2. I will not be fully staffed at 8.50am but I think nearly everyone will make it in. Those stuck on hills in Brighton are going to walk then use public transport.
3. The school building is very cold and we will be going outside at playtimes so we are suspending the Uniform Code as outlined below. Wear warm clothes. Bring a change of clothes if you like. A change of shoes is vital. (Wellington boots if you have them, second pair of socks etc.)
Everyone must have a warm coat, hat, gloves and scarf.
The car park is closed. Please do not try to use it.
Contingency Plans for Monday...
I think, had we opened today, half to two thirds of staff would have made it in by break time once the roads outside their house had thawed out a bit. (My car is still well and truly snowed in though).
However many of them would have been late and I don't want to put people at risk, so here is my proposed plan for Monday and beyond.
Assuming things are no worse than today we aim to be open.
We need your help in order to open and we probably won’t cope if every child is in so the plans are:
As usual you will get a text message.
‘We are open’ means business as usual. Ignore everything that follows.
‘We are closed’ is self explanatory. The weather has worsened or we have problems with heating etc.
‘We are partially open’ we have some problems but we are going to be open. Please read what follows carefully.

Of course we may be under another foot or two of snow in which case we are back to square 1! Alternatively the sun may have come out and everything thawed out (less likely I fear).
Have a good weekend.
